NCTimes: Oceanside city attorney denies challenge to Chargers

August 22, 2007

City Attorney John Mullen on Tuesday denied a citizens group’s challenge to the San Diego Chargers’ “credibility,” saying that a reference to “noise data calculations” made by the National Football League team’s lead negotiator, Mark Fabiani, during a TV interview last month referred only to a general primer prepared for the city of Chula Vista.

Chargers to wear White Uniforms against Chicago

August 22, 2007

The usual home uniform is the blues, but because of the heat, the Chargers (as the home team has the right to choose) will wear their new white uniforms and force the bears to wear their dark blues. This note was included in the UT article from this morning, Starters to make more than cameos this week, but we thought it best to bring it to broader attention.

Chargers.com: Chargers like mix of preseason challenges

August 22, 2007

The Chargers, especially the defensive secondary are looking at Saturday’s pre-season game against Arizona as a good test and challenge.  Casey Pearce of Chargers.com wrote a piece about it (including news and notes at the end of it) that can be read by clicking here.  But, here is a quote from Clinton Hart, who looks like the favorite to open the season #1 on the SS Depth Chart:

“We’ve really been talking a lot and getting everyone where they’re supposed to be,” Hart said. “We haven’t been perfect, but we’re learning and growing. Saturday is going to be good for us because the Cardinals can do a lot of things other teams can’t because of the weapons they have. It’ll be a good chance for us to see where we’re at.”

Pearce also posted this injury update in the same article:

Injury update

Wednesday was status quo on the Chargers’ medical report. Those missing practice included defensive tackle Brandon McKinney (ankle), linebacker Matt Wilhelm (calf), defensive end Igor Olshansky (groin), linebacker Anthony Waters (knee) and guard Erik Robertson (ankle).

McKinney was out of his protective boot and appeared to be better but will not play Saturday, nor will Wilhelm. Turner said it’s also unlikely that Olshansky nor Waters will work against the Cardinals.

ESPN Fantasy 32 Questions: San Diego Chargers

August 22, 2007

ESPN did a fantasy series entitled ’32 questions’ in which they went team by team to identify the big question for each team as it related to the 2007 Fantasy Football season.  The question for the Chargers?

Is Philip Rivers ready to make the leap to elite fantasy quarterback, and will he take a wide receiver with him?

You’ll find few who’ll argue the Chargers don’t have just about the most dominant offense around. Its 492 points was 65 better than the second-best teams (the Colts and Bears); its yards-per-game average was fourth in the NFL; and its time of possession average was top-5. As the team’s signal-caller, Philip Rivers was a respectable eighth in fantasy points among quarterbacks, having passed for 3,388 yards (ninth in the NFL), 22 touchdowns (eighth) and assembling a 92.0 rating (eighth). Rivers is a no-doubter No. 1 quarterback in all fantasy leagues. But is he “elite”?

What was their answer?  Click here to find out.

Acee: Davis “settling in as the No. 2 receiver”

August 22, 2007

In his weekly report on SportingNews.com, Kevin Acee had an interesting tidbit regarding first-round pick Craig Davis:

NEWCOMER REPORT: Craig Davis can catch the ball. The first-round pick is settling in as the No. 2 receiver in the absence of Eric Parker. By the time Parker returns (expected in late October), Davis could have aced him out of a role. Davis is fast and can catch on the fly or in traffic.
